So lately we have been getting the kindest donations to our art program. We have a wonder anonymous donor who helps support the photo program, who recently helped to take students on a field trip for interior design. Without them, my students would not get to experiment in the fields of photography, graphic and interior design. They have been wonderful to us.
Today I was given a donation of ceramic molds for the kiln. I am so excited. We have never been able to use those in the classroom so I think this will be a great experience for the kids in next year's ceramics classes. It is the big and small of people thinking about and giving of their time and money to our program that has helped it grow and thrive into a wonderful learning environment!
Our art program is around a 200 strong in a school of around 650...not too shabby. Our goal is innovate and educate!

Edgar County Student Show
I am so very proud of my kids right now....ok always, but especially right now! We have been so busy putting together this year's musical sets that we neglected several of our shows. So we threw together some work for the Edgar County Show and I am proud to say that the kids did great! Sarah Lueken received Judge's Choice, Best of Show in 2-D. Millie Arp received Judge's choice, Best of Show in 3-D, Emily Wacaser and Lauren Aquirre also placed in 2-D and 3-D catergories! Congratulations to Shiloh Junior and Senior High for receiving the overall school award this year! They had some great artwork!

An Outlet

As an art teacher I have a love and have an appreciation of the arts. I love teaching my students the skills and opening their ideas to all types of art. Countless times I am asked what type of art do I do in my spare time. Sometimes I smile, with a two year old, who has time. And then I got to thinking why don't I? Why don't I take time for me and do what I love! So my 11 year old and I created a craft room at home. I have gotten back in to scrap booking and collage. I have even been sewing a bit. My love in art is the designing. I love the plan and seeing the dream come to life. So when a very good friend of mine asked me to start working a business together, I could not resist. We are Occasions. We plan, design, and create the decor for events such as weddings, proms, graduation parties, and special events. What an amazing way to use my talents. I hope when my students leave this classroom, that they find a way to use their talents to be happy and feel successful. I do not care if they remember Van Gogh painted Starry Night (although that would be nice), what I truly care about is that somewhere, they have found out that they possess a talent that will follow them through life.
